What is WordPress?
Overview:
WordPress is a content management system that makes it easier on people to manage their website content. WordPress is very popular and makes up much of the websites on the internet today. The popularity of the program is because of the number of plugins you can get and how flexible it is to customize. So what is a wordpress framework? I am glad you asked.
WordPress sites are composed of three major components. The first component is the code free to download and install. The second being the Theme or framework that is installed, this gives the website its look and feel. The last component are the plugins, these little “programs” are what make it extremely flexible and popular.
What are Theme’s?
Once you have installed the wordpress software now you have to select the Theme Framework for the website. Some people elect to use one of the free themes that comes with the site. Other’s pick another one like Astra and then layer a page builder like divi on top of the theme to full transform a website.
There are 1000’s of “premium” theme’s that you can purchase for your website. These range from basic layouts to completed websites with eCommerce stores. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
Themes come in 2 form’s, a parent theme and a child theme. A parent theme is the framework like Genesis. The child theme is a selection of settings that customizes the parent theme into your own website. You can use a parent theme with no child theme. You cannot however use a child theme without the parent theme.
What is a WordPress Framework?
The WordPress framework is a collection of the software’s code and the addition of the theme. These two components are key for the success of how the website is visually represented to the visitors.
The content management system allows for people to create content easily. The theme then displays that content based on whether it is a post or page. Most of the blogs you come across on the internet use WorkPress Framework on the backend of the website.
A Page is typically a static location like your home page or contact us page. A post however is where most of the content of the site is going to end up. It then displays those posts on pages like your blog page or home page.
This article is a post that is being displayed on the blog page.
How can I use WordPress for my website?
The answer is actually easier than you might think. Most hosting providers give you the ability to install wordpress when register with them for hosting. In the how to start a blog guide, we use Bluehost as the example and show you how to install wordpress.
When you need something easy to manage and don’t have a need for something very specific WordPress offers you the flexibility, you need to get the website up and running quickly.
WordPress is by the best choice when starting a website out from scratch. Just don’t get overwhelmed with the number of plugins and theme’s. With wordpress is it really easy to go overboard on the plugins.
One last note, be aware that most plugins appear to be free, just like the theme’s. Almost all of them try to get you to upgrade or sign up for a year. I wouldn’t recommend that in the beginning as the costs could skyrocket. Wait until your site is established before making purchases.
